Job Summary
37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work 5 days over 7 days, including weekends and bank holidays. The Portering & Transport Supervisor will lead a team to deliver a high‑quality, efficient, customer‑focused service across the Trust. Based at Kendray Hospital with work across other sites as required, the role involves coordinating daily operations, managing changing priorities and ensuring services run safely and smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and provide an effective, efficient and well‑coordinated Porter/Transport support service to the Trust and other NHS service users via Service Level Agreements and formal contracts.
* Line manage Drivers and Porters, including performance support, individual development, appraisals and 1:1 coaching.
* Plan and manage staff rotas to guarantee full service coverage and liaise with stakeholders across the Trust.
* Identify and implement service improvements to achieve cost‑effective, high‑quality outcomes.
* Manage a small fleet of vehicles, ensuring legal, safety and maintenance compliance.
* Maintain up‑to‑date staff training records and ensure all staff complete required training.
* Prepare and manage Health and Safety plans, risk assessments and compliance with legislation.
* Oversee waste management, segregation and minimisation in line with hazardous waste regulations.
* Assist with business continuity planning, green travel initiatives and taxi contract management.
* Act as the primary contact for Porter/Transport services with service users and external NHS organisations.
* Maintain effective communication with all relevant departments and external contractors.
* Provide senior managers with submissions for service developments and assist with short‑ and long‑term business plans.

* ILM Management Certificate Level 3 or equivalent.
* Demonstrable experience managing service budgets, staffing, procurement, and health & safety for a service or department.
* Substantial supervisory experience in specialised facilities service.
* Experience in business change management and in utilising Microsoft and other IT programmes.
* Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations and carriage of dangerous goods legislation.
Person Specification – Desirable
* NHS experience.
* IOSH Certificate.
* EDCL certification.
Physical Requirements
Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post, including a satisfactory sickness record over the previous two years.
