Senior Quantity Surveyor Manchester £80,000 Benefits Overview: We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Senior Quantity Surveyor to provide contractual and commercial leadership across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and civil engineering projects from pre-construction through to final account. This role is responsible for maximising project value, managing commercial risk, maintaining healthy cashflow, and ensuring robust commercial governance throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with operational, finance, procurement, and commercial teams, you will play a key role in delivering successful project outcomes while supporting business objectives and maintaining high standards of commercial performance. The successful candidate will also take ownership of subcontract procurement and management, build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, and contribute to the development of junior commercial professionals through mentoring and coaching. Key Responsibilities: Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards across projects. Promote a proactive culture of risk awareness and hazard identification. Monitor and support supply chain compliance with safety and quality requirements. Champion employee wellbeing and safe working practices. Commercial & Client Management: Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, and operational teams. Provide accurate and timely commercial information to support decision-making. Develop effective supplier and subcontractor relationships to achieve best value and project success. Manage client expectations and support the successful agreement of final accounts. Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks throughout project delivery. Leadership & Team Development: Mentor and support Assistant and Trainee Quantity Surveyors. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture. Communicate effectively with senior leadership regarding project performance, opportunities, and risks. Share best practices and contribute to the continuous development of commercial processes. Commercial Management: Manage cost reporting, forecasting, valuations, and financial controls. Lead subcontract procurement, administration, and commercial management. Administer contracts throughout both pre-contract and post-contract stages. Work closely with estimating, procurement, and operational teams to optimise project performance. Ensure compliance with established commercial procedures and reporting requirements. Effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines within a fast-paced environment. Performance & Continuous Improvemen t: Support budget planning, procurement strategies, and commercial objectives. Utilise cost management systems and business resources effectively. Contribute to innovation, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives. Drive commercial performance through effective change control and contract management. Experience: CSCS accredited. Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent industry experience. Professional membership (RICS, CICES, ICE or similar) desirable. Strong background in commercial and financial management within construction or infrastructure environments. Experience delivering civil engineering projects including drainage, highways, groundworks, concrete structures, and related infrastructure works. Experience managing projects valued up to £20m. Full UK driving licence. Skills & Knowledge: Strong commercial acumen with the ability to maximise profitability and manage cashflow. Sound understanding of the civil engineering and infrastructure sectors. Proven experience in cost forecasting, reporting, and contract administration. Working knowledge of NEC, JCT, and ICE contract forms. Understanding of warranties, bonds, guarantees, and insurance requirements. Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with project management software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project. Knowledge of tendering, procurement, and health & safety requirements. Ability to interpret technical drawings and analyse project data effectively. Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Understanding of industry measurement standards including CESMM4, MCHW, and SMM7.
