About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Shift Engineer to join our operations team within a mission-critical data centre environment. This role is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, monitoring, and operational integrity of critical infrastructure systems, ensuring maximum uptime and reliability for our clients. You will be part of a dynamic engineering team operating on a shift basis, maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and performance across all building systems. Key Responsibilities Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on critical systems Monitor and operate electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems within the data centre Respond promptly to alarms, incidents, and system faults, ensuring swift resolution Perform first-line fault diagnosis and escalation where necessary Ensure all activities comply with health & safety regulations and site procedures Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities via CMMS systems Support contractor management, including supervision and permit control (PTW) Conduct routine inspections and ensure systems are operating within defined parameters Participate in shift handovers, ensuring clear communication of site status Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency Key Systems & Equipment Generators UPS Systems BMS Systems HV/LV Electrical Distribution Cooling Systems (CRAC/CRAH Units, Chillers) Fire Detection and Suppression Systems Skills & Experience Required Proven experience in a critical environment (Data Centres, Hospitals, Banking, etc.) Strong understanding of electrical and/or mechanical systems Relevant technical qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) Experience with permit-to-work systems and safe systems of work Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
