SEMH Teaching Assistant – Newcastle

We’re working with a specialist provision in Newcastle looking for a confident SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This is a full-time, long-term role where every day genuinely matters.

Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £89–£100 per day (PAYE, no umbrella companies)
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: Immediate
What you’ll be doing:
Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
Helping students regulate emotions and stay engaged in learning
Working closely with teachers, SENCO and pastoral teams
Using de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour support
Creating a safe, structured and encouraging learning environment
This isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room. It’s about being the steady one.

What we’re looking for:
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour
Background in education, youth work, care, sports coaching or similar
Calm, resilient and confident personality
Strong behaviour management skills
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willing to apply
Team Teach or de-escalation training is a bonus, but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
