About the Role - We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Civil Engineering Technician to join our expanding team in Dundee. You will assist in the preparation of design drawings, technical documents, and digital models for a variety of civil and infrastructure projects, including highways, drainage, earthworks, and structural works.
This role is ideal for someone with a solid technical foundation who enjoys problem-solving, design coordination, and contributing to high-quality engineering solutions within a collaborative environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Prepare detailed engineering drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and Civil 3D (or similar design software).
* Assist in the design and detailing of highways, drainage, and earthworks in accordance with UK standards.
* Support engineers in preparing design reports, calculations, and technical documentation.
* Undertake site surveys, inspections, and data collection as required.
* Contribute to the preparation of planning, tender, and construction packages.
* Liaise with statutory bodies, local authorities, contractors, and utility providers.
* Ensure all work complies with current design standards, health and safety legislation, and company procedures.
* Maintain accurate project records and drawings using the company’s document management systems.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential:
* HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
* Proven experience in a civil engineering or infrastructure design environment in the UK.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and working knowledge of Civil 3D or MicroDrainage.
* Good understanding of UK design standards and construction practices (e.g., DMRB, Sewers for Adoption, Building Regulations).
* Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational and communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
* Experience working in a consultancy or local authority environment.
* Familiarity with BIM processes and digital design tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks).
* Experience in sustainable drainage (SuDS) design and environmental considerations.
* Working towards EngTech or Incorporated status with ICE or CIHT.
