Job Summary
:
In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.
"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”.
Major Responsibilities:
The Senior Field Engineer supports Project Managers in the monitoring of construction related activity on large, strategically important projects (typically above £25m), or across multiple projects within a defined sub-programme, or supporting a Programme Construction Manager on larger or more complex projects (typically above £100m) – all in a live operational environment.
1. Input into constructability reviews to optimise construction sequencing, logistics, and methodology.
2. Coordinate with engineering and design consultants to ensure construction requirements are reflected in design deliverables.
3. Support the development of site layouts, temporary works strategies, logistics and phasing plans for construction in a live operational environment.
4. Assist in developing overall construction execution plans, staffing strategies, and resource estimates.
5. Collaborate with Procurement and Supply Chain to develop construction packaging and delivery strategies.
6. Ensure health, safety, and environmental (HSE) considerations are embedded in all aspects of design and planning.
7. Review and monitor implementation of robust quality control plans during design and construction phases.
8. Maintain awareness of design evolution, scope changes, and their potential impacts on construction methods, costs, and schedules.
9. Contribute to cost estimates, budgets, risk assessments, and progress reporting for construction scope.
10. Provide guidance and mentorship to assigned project and field personnel, promoting a culture of safety, collaboration, and excellence.
11. Establishes a design/field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Project Engineer including agreement on engineering deliverables.
12. Coordinates with design on constructability issues
13. Reviews project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule
14. Ensures the Zero Accident Philosophy is incorporated into all aspects of construction operations.
15. Lead any assigned Construction Management resource, support the development of any such assigned resource; maintain standards, manage, motivate, coach and mentor as required. Perform supervisory role to Field Engineers within the wider programme team
16. Coordinate with the Design Management Team to deliver effective commissioning and handover of projects through review of as-built information, ensuring quality and completeness in what is delivered against contractual requirements
17. Support Contractor onboarding, including introductions to Security, Contractor Support Centre and other key stakeholders, logistics planning and interface management. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate and support contractor mobilisation and work scope, with a focus on striking the right balance between operational disruption and project cost.
18. Monitor contractor progress against plan and report delays or changes to the project team verbally and produce a daily record of events in the construction management and reporting tool.
19. Support the continuous improvement of project delivery processes and procedures and implement process improvements as these are developed.
Education and Experience Requirements:
20. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
21. Knowledge of construction methods, procedures, and sequencing for civil and airfield works.
22. Experience of working on project within live operational facilities.
23. Strong knowledge of HSE requirements and proven track record of promoting a safe working culture.
24. Interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
25. Demonstrated ability to provide sound technical leadership and problem-solving under pressure.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
26. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration.
27. Experience in aviation, airfield, or major transportation infrastructure projects.
28. Knowledge of UK construction and safety regulations, including CDM requirements.
29. Experience with NEC contract administration and project delivery frameworks.
30. Prior experience in planning and executing brownfield projects in live environments.
