Residential Childcare PractitionerLocation: ReadingEmployer: Reading Borough CouncilContract: Initial 3-month contractHours: 37 hours per week (full-time)Pay Rate: £16.70 per hour (Umbrella) / £13.26 per hour (PAYE)About the RoleReading Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Childcare Practitioner to support children and young people in a residential care setting. This role involves providing high-quality care, promoting positive outcomes, and supporting children’s emotional, social, and developmental needs. You will work as part of a team to create a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where children can thrive.Key Responsibilities
* Support children in their daily routines, promoting independence and wellbeing
* Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people
* Promote and safeguard the welfare of children at all times
* Support emotional, behavioural, and social development
* Follow care plans, risk assessments, and safeguarding procedures
* Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals
* Maintain accurate records and reports
Requirements
* NVQ Level 3 in Childcare / Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
* Registered and subscribed to the DBS Update Service
* Knowledge of good practice in residential childcare settings
* Experience working with children
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Working Pattern This role operates on a shift basis, including:
* 7:00am – 3:00pm
* 2:00pm – 10:00pm
* Alternate weekend working required
