Who are we looking for?
* Engagement Skills: Highly motivated, approachable, promoting positive relationships, fostering high expectations, inspiring and motivating students creatively and adaptively.
* Emotional Support: Committed to high pastoral care with effective behaviour management and meaningful support for students with diverse and challenging needs.
* Academic Background: Degree or equivalent qualification. Maths and English at least Level 2.
* Core Teaching Qualifications: QTS/QTLS required, NPQSL and/or NPQH desirable, specialist qualification a plus.
* Experience: Proven teaching experience across secondary age range with a track record as Head of SEN or similar leadership role; virtual learning environment experience desirable.
* Teaching Subjects: Proficiency in delivering a chosen subject area and supporting staff with curriculum delivery.
* Knowledge: Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, equality of opportunity, and inclusion, especially with vulnerable children.
* Problem–Solving: Identify challenges quickly and implement student‑focused solutions that deliver positive outcomes.
* Communication: Clear and persuasive, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents/carers, staff, governors.
* Promotion of Values: Dedicated to promoting equality, diversity, safeguarding, wellbeing, and British values.
* Time Management: Manage leadership responsibilities, team coordination, student outcomes, community engagement.
* Partnership & Community Engagement: Experience working closely with parents, community organisations and external stakeholders for holistic student development.
About The School
Progress Schools is a national group of 13 independent OFSTED‑regulated schools. In Northampton, we support approximately 35 pupils, offering a nurturing, encouraging environment for those reintegrating into mainstream settings. The core team comprises a Head of School, up to seven teachers, and five support staff; additional regional and national staff provide support across the group.
