Job overview
The Trust welcomes applications for a Locum Consultant in Specialist Palliative Medicine to work closely with the other two Consultants in Specialist Palliative Medicine and the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to deliver Consultant-led care at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, St John’s Hospice inpatient unit, day hospice, and community settings. The post holder will support the community Macmillan nursing and Hospice at Home teams and deliver weekly specialist palliative care clinics. This is a fixed-term post for 24 months to cover a career break and to maintain the current establishment of 3 Consultants, hospice practitioner, GP Vocational Training Scheme (VTS) trainees, and nurse consultant.
Main duties of the job
* Review of patients in Doncaster Royal Infirmary requiring consultant input under the care of the Specialist Palliative Care hospital team
* Taking advice calls from healthcare professionals in the community and hospitals as needed
* Delivery of weekly specialist palliative care clinics
* Attending the Community specialist palliative care MDT and Hospice Inpatient MDT
* Review of inpatients at the Hospice, including newly admitted or requiring consultant review, and providing leave cover to the inpatient unit, including ward rounds

Person specification
Experience
* High level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Palliative Medicine
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems within the specialty
* Ability to work with and lead multidisciplinary teams
* Wide experience in Palliative Medicine
* Attendance at a recognised management course
Qualifications
* MRCP or equivalent
* Maintain a Licence to Practise
* Admitted to the specialist register for Palliative Medicine or within 6 months of admission, if in training in the UK
Teaching & Training
* Experience and enthusiasm for teaching postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff
* Academic achievements and familiarity with research methods, including publications
* Training in clinical and educational supervision
* Attendance at a teaching course
* Formal qualification in teaching/education
Audit and Research
* Knowledge of audit principles and experience in audit projects and implementing outcomes
* Critical appraisal skills
* Knowledge of research methodology
Personal Qualities
* Proficiency with IT systems – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
* Innovative mindset
* Commitment to continual learning and development
* Self-awareness and understanding of how behavior impacts others
