In the role of Prescribing Support Technician you will support the Prescribing Support Team in:
The implementation of the Bolton prescribing strategy at individual practice level. To provide hands-on support to primary health care teams to help them implement agreed prescribing changes.
Working across the locality on joint projects and initiatives required and to promote awareness of medicines optimisation issues.

Main duties of the job
Provide basic pharmaceutical advice to primary care teams, patients, and carers in line with NICE, national, and local guidance.
Communicate relevant medicines optimisation issues to the healthcare team for individual patient cases.
Attend practice meetings to support the development and review of annual prescribing action plans.
Undertake audits and projects that align with locality prescribing strategies and practice improvement plans.
Assist practices in achieving quality and cost-efficiency targets outlined in the Bolton prescribing improvement programme.
Support the development and improvement of repeat prescribing systems and policies tailored to individual practices.
Provide advice on and help implement external medicines management systems (e.g., Business Intelligence Portal, OptimiseRx) to ensure accurate medicines data transfer.
Maintain professional development through self-directed learning and trust-provided opportunities.
Attend all mandatory training and adhere to relevant trust and departmental policies.
Contribute to a safe working environment, reporting any concerns affecting patient care or staff safety.
Submit statements on untoward incidents and remain aware of legal and regulatory obligations relevant to the role.

Job responsibilities
Provide basic pharmaceutical advice to the primary health care teams/patients/carers in accordance with NICE and other national guidance and local guidelines.
Communicate medicines optimisation issues for individual patients to the primary health care team.
Attend practice meetings at allocated practices and contribute to the discussion and formulation of a practice prescribing action plan for the coming year.
Undertake practice based projects / audits to support work within the practice prescribing action plans and locality plans.
Undertake other practice based projects to improve prescribing performance ensuring compliance with the Bolton locality prescribing strategy.
Support practices to achieve their quality and cost improvement targets as specified in the locality prescribing improvement program.
Work with practice staff to develop practice-specific repeat prescribing policies.Audit repeat prescribing systems and advise practices on how systems could be improved.
Work together with the practices during the implementation of the new external medicines management support systems to help ensure the accurate transfer of medicines information (examples included but are not limited to: Business Intelligence Portal, ScriptSwitch).

Professional Registration
* Registered pharmacy technician with the GPhC
Qualifications
* BTEC (pharmaceutical Sciences) or equivalent
Experience
* Experience of analysing PACT/ ePACT data
Knowledge
* Working knowledge of therapeutics
* Ability to work methodically.
* Ability to work with / analyse & interpret data
* Understanding of primary & secondary care prescribing issues.
* Knowledge of primary care clinical systems
* Evidence of CPD
* Basic computer skills (Word processing / Excel)
