Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, accurate and motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant (Clinical Support Worker) to join our team in Cellular Pathology, at the Royal United Hospital, in Bath.
Responsibilities
* Provide pathology support within Cellular Pathology, including data inputting of histopathology samples, slide and block filing, and use of the pathology computer system (Ultra).
* Receive and deliver stores, assist in the Histology and Cytology sections, and support the professional team (including Biomedical Scientists and Medical Consultants).
* Prepare multi-disciplinary clinico-pathological meetings and carry out laboratory support tasks that do not require Biomedical Scientist State Registration, under direction and in accordance with approved methods and quality assurance protocols.
* Perform data entry checks to confirm data quality, manage specimen storage, retrieval, and preparation of histological and cytological material under supervision of the Biomedical Scientist Team Manager/Professional Manager.
* Support BMS and Medical Consultants and undertake general laboratory duties as required.
* Assist in processing histological and cytological specimens from hospital and GP patients and support the delivery of a full pathology service, including digital pathology.

Eligibility and requirements
* Minimum qualification: NVQ level 3 or equivalent (e.g., 2 A-levels); however, a degree is not required for this post.
* Experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant working in pathology, ideally with proven recent competencies in Cellular Pathology. In-house training will be provided as necessary.
Role details
This is a permanent full-time post (37.5 hours per week), weekdays only, with variable hours between 08:00 and 17:30. The position will be based in the Histology section, which processes about 30,000 histology cases per annum. The Herschel Pathology Laboratories are in modern facilities; we are IBMS-accredited for training and hold UKAS accreditation.
