Specialty Grade Doctor – CAMHS ICCS and Crisis Team

ELFT is seeking a Specialty Grade Doctor to provide psychiatric input to the East London CAMHS Crisis Team and ICCS, delivering crisis assessments and brief interventions to young people across Newham, Tower Hamlets and City & Hackney.


Job Overview

This post focuses on intensive crisis assessment and intervention, collaborating closely with community CAMHS services, the Patient Flow Team and NCEL provider to reduce inpatient admissions.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide psychiatry input to the CAMHS Crisis Team for crisis assessments and brief interventions.
* Deliver intensive interventions in the community to support selected young people, aiming to reduce the need for inpatient admission or support discharge from inpatient services.
* Act as a gatekeeper for all potential requests for inpatient admission.
* Liaise closely with the NCEL provider collaborative Patient Flow Team to review referrals for possible community interventions.
* Use outcome measurements and participate in quality improvement projects and clinical audit initiatives.
* Maintain and develop effective working relationships with staff and service users.
* Operate autonomously while being a valuable team player, assessing and prioritising patient needs.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Medical graduation.
* Fully registered with the General Medical Council.
* Higher degree (desirable).
* Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (desirable).
* Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983, or plan to gain approval within 6 months of appointment (desirable).


Knowledge & Experience

* Child and adolescent mental health disorders and their management.
* Experience with pharmacological treatments.
* Risk assessment and risk management.
* Use of outcome measurements.
* Experience of quality improvement projects & clinical audit (desirable).
* Good working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act (desirable).


Organisational Skills & Abilities

* Excellent communication skills, verbal, non verbal and written.
* Develop effective working relationships.
* Function autonomously as well as being a team player.
* Assess, formulate and prioritise patients’ needs.
* Apply research and theory to practice.
* Evidence‑based service development (desirable).
* Skills and a range of therapeutic interventions and psycho‑social treatment options (desirable).
* Experience with audit and research (desirable).
