Senior Cardiac Physiologist

Candidates should have at least Band 5 level with experience in all Invasive and Non‑Invasive procedures. Participates and actively contributes to an efficient and effective Cardiac Physiology Service at Royal Brompton Hospital.
Responsibilities
* Perform and assist with all invasive and non‑invasive cardiac investigations within the hospital.
* Maintain a 24‑hour cardiac physiology service; participate in the departmental on‑call rota when appropriately trained.
* Supervise and support junior staff, including trainee PTP/STP Cardiac Physiologists and allied professionals, within designated sections of the Cardiology Department.
* Interpret technical information and data from patient investigations; prepare reports and alert clinicians to clinically significant findings.
* Assist in the delivery of PCI, right heart caths and paediatric cases; provide technical reports and manage cath‑lab haemodynamic systems, including troubleshooting.
* Assist with pacemaker and ICD implants, analyse pacemaker/patient interactions, and report suitability to the implanting physician.
* Provide technical support for intra‑aortic balloon pump, Impella, permanent/temporary pacing, FFR, and monitoring to all wards.
* Carry out DC cardioversions in cardiac theatres on patients with atrial fibrillation/flutter, with or without pacemaker/ICD.
* Monitor patients during investigations, report any rhythm changes or arrest, and initiate life support measures such as external defibrillation.
* Assist with patient education, explanation of procedures, and provide comfort during stressful events.
* Recruit, organise and reschedule non‑invasive test appointments; participate in waiting‑list initiatives.
* Maintain cardiology‑related stock levels and participate in quality‑control and technical audits as part of the trust’s clinical governance programme.
* Trained in Immediate Life Support (ILS) and/or Advanced Life Support (ALS); assist during ALS recertification as required.
* Actley address patient and relative concerns, objections and complaints with empathy, persuasion, and tact.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience across a wide range of invasive and non‑invasive cardiac tests and procedures within the department.
* Qualified Band 5 Cardiac Physiologist or current Band 6 within the NHS.
* Independent practitioner within CRM (Devices) and/or routine/complex PCI, competent in follow‑up of complex implantable cardiac devices.
Skills
* Technical knowledge of all aspects of Cardiac Physiology.
* Able to work independently and as part of a team.
* Experience with patient information systems (EPIC, Pacenet or similar).
* Participation in the on‑call rota in the cath‑lab.
Qualifications
* BSc Clinical Physiology / Healthcare Science (Cardiology) or BTEC HNC Science; alternatively AHCS Certificate of PTP Equivalence.
* Registration with RCCP and AHCS.
* Intermediate Life Support (ILS) certification.
Benefits
* Salary: £47,951 to £56,863 per annum including HCA + RRP £6,000 per annum (subject to review March 2027).
