Job Description: Cleaner
Monday to Friday – 4-6pm
(10 hours per week, term time only + 10 hours during the summer holidays)
Grade 1 - £14.18 per hour including annual leave entitlement
Overall Purpose of the Job
* To assist the Premises Officer in the maintenance of high standards of cleanliness throughout the school, by performing cleaning duties during term-time and school holidays.
* Undertake cleaning of allocated areas in line with specified standards and as directed, working individually or as part of a team.
* Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school and meeting the needs of the staff and children.
Main Tasks
* Clean, wash, sweep, hoover, buff, polish and clean surfaces using the appropriate cleaning equipment/resources.
* Spot-clean walls and paintwork.
* Ensure low level internal glass in doors and mirrors are cleaned and left smear free.
* Empty litter bins, recycling and general waste.
* Ensure that doors and windows are secure and lights are turned off.
General Responsibilities
* Operate/use domestic and industrial cleaning equipment and materials, following appropriate training.
* Responsible for ensuring that cleaning equipment/materials used in the course of duties are left in a clean and tidy condition, stored safely and securely, identifying any replacements with the Premises Officer.
* Undertake all tasks in compliance with health and safety regulations (including the Health and Safety at Work Act and other nationally/locally agreed Codes of Practice) and take action where hazards are identified, report serious hazards to the Premises Officer immediately.
* To provide paid cover in the short term absence of another team member.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
* Work flexibly in respect of duties.
* Safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
* Remain up to date and abide by school procedures and policies.
* Demonstrate a commitment to recycling.

Explanatory notes
School cleaning staff are appointed to work within the school as part of a team under the general direction of the Premises Officer. Their deployment will depend upon staff and pupils' needs, pupil numbers, staffing organisation and additional responsibilities as designated by the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team. Employees will be expected to comply with any reasonable request from the Headteacher to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description, commensurate with the grade/level of responsibility of the post.
