The business operates a traditional contractor model, delivering complex projects for a loyal client base and values experience, judgement and hands‑on leadership.
Description
As the Financial Controller / Head of Finance, you will assume full responsibility for the finance function and act as the principal financial advisor to the directors. Key responsibilities include:
* Production of monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheet and forecasts
* Work‑in‑progress, contract accruals and margin analysis
* Weekly contract and valuation performance tracking
* Daily cash management and rolling cashflow forecasting
* Monthly VAT returns, PAYE submissions and CIS compliance
* End‑to‑end payroll processing and pension administration
* Overhead analysis and cost control
* Oversight of sales, nominal, subcontractor and purchase ledgers
* Maintenance of the fixed asset register
* Year‑end audit preparation and liaison with external auditors
* Group reporting and consolidation where required
* Attendance at monthly management meetings, providing commercial insight
Profile
The successful Financial Controller / Head of Finance should meet the following requirements:
* You will be a qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA) with proven experience in a construction or contracting environment.
* You will have strong working knowledge of WIP, CIS and cashflow management, and be comfortable operating as the number one finance lead within an owner‑managed business.
