Assistant children's club leader - coding and gaming clubs

Bury
The Code Zone
Assistant
Posted: 19h ago
Offer description

WHO WE ARE

The Code Zone runs exciting coding clubs for children aged 6–16. We're an award-winning edtech company that makes learning to code genuinely fun; through game-making, creative projects, and a whole lot of enthusiasm. We run online clubs with over 1,000 members every week, as well as local clubs across the Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire region.

Think less “boring IT lesson”, more “after-school gaming club where you accidentally learn to code.”

THE ROLE

As a Local Club Assistant, you'll be the right hand of our club leader, helping kids aged 6–14 get stuck into coding sessions using tools like Scratch (drag-and-drop block coding) and beginner Python. You don't need to be a coding expert — we'll train you on everything.

Here's what a typical session might look like:

- Help setup the computers, VR headsets and robots before the session starts

- Welcome kids as they arrive, help them get set up

- Walk around and help when someone's stuck on their project

- Chat to kids about their game ideas and help them problem-solve

- Celebrate when someone's creation comes to life

- Help prep prep for the next session.

⏰ HOURS & SCHEDULE

We are recruiting for both Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds Clubs. You can apply for one or both — it's up to you.

You'll need to be there for around 2.5 hours per session, this includes setup, session and packing up time.

During school holidays, we also run special Game Zone sessions featuring VR paintball battles, Among Us in VR, Minecraft multiplayer adventures, and Nintendo Switch tournaments. These are optional extra shifts with flexible scheduling.

BONUS: GAME ZONE SESSIONS

Love the sound of this role? There's more! During school holidays, you can also help run our epic Game Zone sessions featuring:

* - VR paintball battles and Among Us adventures
* - Minecraft multiplayer sessions
* - Nintendo Switch tournament days

YOU'D BE GREAT AT THIS IF YOU…

- Love gaming, we are all gamers here!

- Are friendly, patient, and good at explaining things simply

- Are comfortable with tech (you don't need to code, just not be scared of a laptop)

- Looking for a fun part-time role that actually means something

- Can keep the energy up and make kids laugh (bad jokes count)

- Genuinely enjoy being around young people and want to help them learn

No coding experience required for our Hacker (Scratch) clubs. If you do know some Python, even better — you could help with our Modder clubs too.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

- Fantastic experience — real experience working with kids and in edtech

- Full training provided — we'll teach you everything you need to know

- Opportunity to grow — take on more hours, learn Python, Unity, and more

- Join a friendly, relaxed team that genuinely cares about what we do

- Free upskilling in game dev tools, coding languages, and teaching skills

- DBS check provided and paid for by us

❗ THE NON-NEGOTIABLES

- Reliable — kids are counting on you to show up

- Enthusiastic — your energy is what makes the session great

- Able to get to the club venue in Cambridge (Wednesdays) or Bury St Edmunds (Tuesdays)

- Willing to undergo a DBS check (we'll sort this out)

BONUS POINTS FOR…

- Any coding knowledge (Scratch, Python, anything really)

- Experience coaching, tutoring, or mentoring young people

- Serious gaming knowledge (Pokémon, Minecraft, Roblox - we're not joking, the kids love it)

- A creative streak — ideas for fun mini-projects and activities
