Job Summary:
• An experienced Domestic Abuse Officer is required to join the Family Safeguarding Team within Children’s Services.
• The role focuses on providing high-quality assessments, interventions, and support to families affected by domestic abuse.
• This includes working with both perpetrators and victims to reduce harm, promote positive behavioural change, and improve outcomes for children and families.
• The postholder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, adopting Motivational Interviewing techniques and contributing to the delivery of evidence-based interventions.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Deliver targeted interventions to both victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse within high-risk families.
• Conduct risk assessments and contribute to the management and escalation of safeguarding concerns.
• Develop and implement safety plans to protect vulnerable family members.
• Work collaboratively with professionals in children’s services, police, probation, mental health, and MARAC/MAPPA partners.
• Deliver group and individual programmes such as Building Better Relationships, Caring Dads, and Anger Management.
• Undertake home visits, case recording, and information sharing in line with safeguarding protocols.
• Provide advice and guidance to colleagues on risk management and safeguarding practice.
• Participate in team supervision, meetings, and case conferences to support decision-making and planning.
• Promote equality, diversity, and respect in all aspects of service delivery.
Skills/Experience:
• Demonstrable experience working with victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment and management in safeguarding contexts.
• Skilled in Motivational Interviewing and CBT-based interventions.
• Knowledge of domestic abuse dynamics, child safeguarding, and trauma-informed practice.
• Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to build trust and influence outcomes.
• Experience working with multi-agency partners such as police, IDVA, SARC, MARAC, and probation services.
• Ability to prepare clear, evidence-based reports and maintain accurate case records.
• High resilience and emotional intelligence when working with complex, high-risk cases.
• Commitment to continuous professional development, equality, and safeguarding.
