Are you inspired by the fast-moving world of technology and the possibilities it creates? Do you love breaking down complex ideas and helping others understand how digital systems shape the way we live and learn? We’re looking for someone who’s genuinely passionate about computer science and ready to bring that enthusiasm into a supportive, forward-thinking teaching environment.

Join us as a Teacher of Computer Science and help our pupils thrive in a subject that’s constantly evolving!

We are in search of a dedicated classroom teacher with a passion for teaching Computer Science across all levels. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that challenge and inspire pupils. The Computer Science department is high performing and prides itself on excellent, innovative teaching and consistently impressive examination results at both GCSE and A level.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that challenge and inspire pupils across the full age and ability range (11-18). Your role will involve creating a positive learning environment, building pupils' confidence, and maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues, pupils and parents.

Computer Science is studied as an optional subject at both GCSE and A-level following the AQA specifications. Our KS3 curriculum aims to achieve all strands of the National Curriculum for computer science, with a strong emphasis on both programming and collaborative ICT skills to support pupils in their learning across the curriculum and throughout their academic journey and beyond.

The department supports pupils through frequent clinics and targeted interventions. We offer several coding clubs for pupils of all ages and are looking to widen our co-curricular and super-curricular provision. The successful candidate would have the opportunity to lead activities relating to their own interests. We have enjoyed significant successes in the BAFTA Young Game Designers competition and the British Informatics Olympiad.

The successful candidate will have excellent subject knowledge and a passion for learning. A working understanding of Python 3.12 and Microsoft Office 365 would be desirable. The successful candidate will also be instrumental in helping to further improve exam performance as a dedicated and enthusiastic member of the team. They will have strong classroom management skills with the ability to teach and inspire pupils across the senior school age range (11-18 years). The ability to teach another subject would be advantageous.

About GSAL

The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) was awarded North Independent School of the Year 2024 and Independent School of the Decade in 2021. The school continues to be a friendly, fun and supportive environment with high investment in pupil and colleague wellbeing, while insisting upon and maintaining high expectations.

‘Be inspired’ is the ethos behind our teaching and learning at GSAL. We nurture all our pupils to make the most of their talents, realise their potential and develop into confident young people ready to rise to any challenge. These values have been at the heart of our school life for over four centuries.

GSAL provides a high quality independent education for 2,100 boys and girls between the ages of 2 and 18. The main school campus at Alwoodley Gates in north Leeds was purpose built for Leeds Grammar School, which relocated in 1997 from the city center.

GSAL is academically selective, with consistently excellent A-level and GCSE results. After merger, the school introduced the diamond model of teaching, through which boys and girls learn together up to age 11, then in single sex classes between Year 7 and Year 11, and come together again in sixth form lessons. Form time and extracurricular activities are mixed throughout. Class sizes are usually between 16 and 22.

Academic achievement is at the heart of a rounded education at GSAL, which offers our pupils personal development opportunities and broad experience beyond the classroom. With superb facilities available in school, pupils can take part in sport, music, drama, scouts, CCF, Duke of Edinburgh, debating and much more. We offer an outdoor learning programme and a wide variety of trips at home and abroad. Our lively house system encourages pupils to get involved and have fun.

This success can only be achieved with committed, professional and well-qualified colleagues who are focused upon excellence in the classroom and contributions to the wider life of the school. Colleagues have a good degree of autonomy in their teaching, outstanding learning resources and an attractive benefits package. A large school offers opportunities for CPD, career progression and leadership roles in academic, pastoral and extracurricular areas.

We value our team and offer a wide range of benefits including:

* Enhanced school holidays (approximately 16 weeks)

* Significant discount on school fees

* Childcare provided for colleague's children during school INSET days (from the age of 3 up to age 11)
