DPS is looking for a proactive, handson Sludge Press Field Service Engineer to support the delivery of the NI Water T100 Framework. If you're an engineer who enjoys problemsolving, working independently and making a real impact on essential public services across Northern Ireland, this could be the role for you.
In this fieldbased position, you'll take ownership of maintaining, servicing and repairing sludge presses across NI Water and NI Water Alpha sites while helping keep vital potable water assets safe, efficient and fully operational. You'll join a wellestablished engineering team with strong MEICA expertise, backed by an organisation that invests in people, training and longterm career progression.
Key Responsibilities:
Planned Maintenance & Servicing
* Carry out annual servicing of overhead and sidebar sludge presses in line with OEM manuals and NI Water specifications.
* Example activities include inspection of hydraulic systems, drip trays, membranes, filter plates, plate movement mechanisms, lubrication systems, and cloth wash machines.
* Complete detailed planned maintenance reports including condition assessments, photographs, deviations, and recommendations
Reactive Maintenance & Callouts
* Respond to routine and emergency breakdowns within required SLA timeframes.
* Diagnose faults and carry out repairs safely and efficiently, aiming for firsttime resolution where possible.
* Provide clear service call reports including defect details, parts used, labour time and photographic evidence
Installation & Replacement Works
* Fit sludge press filter cloths and consumables as required.
* Replace worn or defective components, ensuring approvals are obtained for parts above required thresholds.
* Support NI Water operations teams to maintain plant availability during maintenance activities
Compliance, Safety & Reporting
* Work in accordance with NI Water safety procedures, including confined space, working at height, COSHH, manual handling and SHEA requirements.
* Complete task-specific risk assessments and method statements.
* Maintain accurate documentation, material usage logs and asset condition records.
* Ensure all work meets NI Water quality, environmental and operational standards
Essential Skills & Experience:
Technical Background
* Timeserved mechanical or electrical engineer (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
* Strong experience with industrial plant or process equipment, ideally including:
* Hydraulic systems
* Mechanical drives, chains, bearings, sprockets
* Electrical systems and safe isolation
* Pneumatics
* Ability to read engineering drawings and work confidently with OEM manuals
Field Engineering Capability
* Comfortable working independently across multiple remote sites.
* Skilled in fault-finding, root cause analysis and practical problem-solving.
* Experience completing high-quality service reports and maintenance records.
Safety & Compliance
* Valid training in (or willingness to obtain): Confined Space Entry, Water Hygiene (Blue Card), Working at Height, Manual Handling, Gas Detection & Breathing Apparatus, HEA
* Full UK driving licence.
