Geriatric Medicine / Care of the Elderly (COTE) - Ysbyty Gwynedd
The Geriatric Medicine / Care of the Elderly (COTE) services at Ysbyty Gwynedd are based on two dedicated COTE wards. The hospital offers combined acute and rehabilitation stroke beds on a specialist Stroke Unit, providing comprehensive stroke care, including 24/7 out-of-hours thrombolysis and a newly established thrombectomy service. The stroke service is supported by Specialist Nurses. TIA clinics are held five days a week.
Post Responsibilities:
* Provide Consultant input on the COTE ward alongside other consultant colleagues. The ward is supported by 1 SpR, 1 GP trainee, 1 IMT, and 2 FY doctors.
* Attend ward Board Rounds to discuss patient management and discharge plans with junior doctors and the multidisciplinary team.
* Participate in outpatient/specialty clinics, typically involving 2 new patients and 5 follow-ups per session.
* Maintain responsibility for patient care in liaison with Consultant colleagues, including proper delegation and staff training. Ensure the department functions effectively in line with the operational policy and Strategic Plan of COTE and BCUHB.
* Participate in a 1:20 acute medical on-call rota with prospective cover (including 1 additional DCC) and post-take ward rounds.
The ward's Consultant Physician team manages medical patients admitted to the medical wards. The post holder will also act as an Educational or Clinical Supervisor for junior medical staff, overseeing their training and providing career advice, in accordance with guidelines from the relevant Royal Colleges.
