About Us

Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post‑16 education provider in Newham. With campuses in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIoT) in Canning Town, we serve more than 11,000 students across a range of pathways – including 16‑18 study, adult education, apprenticeships and higher education.


The Role

The Student Enrichment & Sports Officer supports the Co‑ordinator to develop, supervise and organise a broad and varied programme of student‑focused engagement and extra‑curricular enrichment & sport activities that enhance the student experience. The role aims to develop students’ independence, personal, social and employability skills, encourage healthy and active lifestyles, and maintain high standards of professionalism and safety.


Key Responsibilities

* Develop and deliver a broad and varied programme of enrichment and sports initiatives.
* Inspire students to fully engage in enrichment programmes by delivering contemporary content that enables the development of a broad range of skills, essential for personal and professional growth.
* Support the training and development of sports teams and attend competitions as necessary.
* Oversee the running of the college gyms, including completing inductions for staff and students.
* Help design and publish materials and website information to promote enrichment and sports.
* Plan and organise freshers fair and other outreach programmes that enhance the student experience and showcase the enrichment and sports academy offer.
* Liaise closely with the Head of Tutorials, curriculum, support teams and students to collate up‑to‑date feedback to shape the enrichment offer.
* Deliver sessions, activities and trips, following all procedures and completing appropriate paperwork, including risk assessments.
* Ensure resources and published materials are relevant and up to date on websites, VLE and noticeboards.
* Maintain and update participation registers to provide data required by the College and external organisations such as Sport England.
* Contribute to the review and evaluation of the Self‑Assessment Report (SAR) and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).


General Responsibilities

* Be aware of safeguarding principles for children and young people as they apply to the role.
* Actively promote and implement the College’s Safeguarding Policy.
* Participate in staff development and training schemes, including PDR procedures.
* Adhere to the College's Single Equality Scheme and champion inclusion in all practices.
* Comply with the College’s Health and Safety policy.
* Undertake reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required.


Our Ideal Candidate

* GCSE grade 4 or equivalent in English and maths.
* Level 1 Coaching or Instructor qualification.
* Accredited First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain).
* Experience delivering enrichment activities.
* Experience coaching or instructing in a wide range of sports or fitness programmes.
* Experience delivering engaging presentations.
* Experience delivering individual and group sessions.
* Experience developing effective relationship/partnership working.
* Experience representing a brand in an outward‑facing role.
* Experience developing promotional/information materials.
* Experience maintaining databases.
* Experience working successfully in an educational setting.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
* Display initiative, be positive and enthusiastic.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Excellent organisational, administrative and IT skills.
* Ability to deliver high‑quality enrichment activities.
* Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and some Saturdays.
