Practice Development Lead at Beechwood College

This is a fixed term contract for 9 months, starting January 2025.

Role Objective

13. To lead the delivery of the College waking curriculum within the residential homes and contribute to the development of support staff, students and strategies.
14. To plan effectively for training sessions and where appropriate work collaboratively with other parts of the organisation.
15. To support all staff in order to raise standards by utilising advanced levels of knowledge and skills when planning, monitoring, assessing and managing training.
16. To work alongside staff from the Education and Clinical teams where appropriate to support the inclusion of all students, encouraging them to become independent learners and to provide support for their welfare.

Role Responsibilities

17. Ensure support within the College is person centred – geared to meet the needs of the students in a way, which is expert and empathetic.
18. Ensure Positive Behaviour Management strategies are implemented for each student. Implement, monitor and evaluate Positive Behaviour Support Plans. Role model best practice in Positive Behaviour Support and practice leadership to support staff by working alongside staff on-shift.
19. Assess, plan, develop and evaluate service delivery to meet individual supported students needs.
20. To create and maintain an appropriate, safe and stimulating learning environment which promotes learning and the desire to learn in shared areas of responsibility
21. To promote the correct environment, variety of teaching styles and learning situations that enhance staff skills
22. To promote the general ethos of the College
23. To promote and maintain good home/ class liaison, maintaining regular contact
24. To encourage the development of a moral
25. To promote the safeguarding of students at all times.
26. To maintain a thorough and up to date knowledge of developments in meeting the needs of students with autism and ALN.

Role Requirements

Professional Qualifications

Train the trainer qualification and current and up to date training experience

SEN Qualification

Knowledge

Knowledge of developments for young people with ASC

Experience of managing change/setting up a new service

Experience

At least 3 years’ experience working as a manager and managing staff effectively

Can evidence Mentoring and Coaching practice.

Experience of working with students who have learning difficulties

Experience of working in a team

Experience of liaising with parents and external agencies and facilitating their active involvement with the student

Experience in assessing the needs of young people with SEN / ASC

Skills/Abilities

Be able to demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills

Ability to provide a warm, welcoming and structured learning environment

Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff

Ability to manage, support and motivate staff in a team situation

Ability of be innovative, imaginative and flexible with the working situation
