About this opportunity
Following a promotion within the team, we are seeking a Principal Finance Officer to join our insurance team.
The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the Insurance Manager in contributing to the management of the service through the professional management of the Council's insurance contracts, uninsured reserves and the effective management, administration and control of claims lodged against the Council.
With an annual budget for the insurance team of c £2m and approximately 800 insurance claims each year, this role will ideally suit a forward thinking, dynamic individual keen to broaden their knowledge, expertise and skills.
Who we are looking for…
We are looking for someone who has:
* Comprehensive knowledge of commercial insurance (Property, Liability, Motor, etc).
* Significant experience of providing insurance advice and services.
* Good technical background in insurance covering all aspects of claims monitoring, reporting and contract negotiation.
* Extensive use of Microsoft Word and Excel including use of advanced functions such as creating templates, pivot tables, etc. (Experience of using Microsoft Access would be advantageous).
The individual will have:
* Good communications and written skills
* Practical knowledge and application of providing accounting services including budget preparation, monitoring and year end accounting practices.
* Evidence of establishing performance measures and performance management culture.
* Experience of dealing with enquiries from members of the public and/or solicitors representing them.
