Company Overview

Metabolight Ltd is an innovative neurotechnology start‑up founded by Prof. Ilias Tachtsidis ). We specialise in developing, supporting, and advising on cutting‑edge optical methods for brain imaging, with a strong focus on industry‑driven applications and scientific dissemination.

Summary

We are now seeking an Applied Neuroscientist to join our growing team and lead the research activities of an ambitious collaborative project with our Industry Partners, focused on next‑generation multimodal neuroimaging and composite biomarker development. This is a full‑time, 24‑month position (at the first instance) based in Ashford, Kent (preferred), but with hybrid working available for the right candidate.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface of neuroscience, neurotechnology, sensory science, and applied research translation. The successful candidate will play a central role in designing and executing an advanced research programme integrating neuroimaging technologies such as EEG, fNIRS, and physiological monitoring to uncover novel biomarkers linking sensory stimuli to neural, emotional, and behavioural responses.

About the Project

The programme aims to strengthen industry capabilities in human sensory neuroscience by building sophisticated experimental frameworks, validated protocols, analytical models, and scalable neurophysiological markers. Grounded in the concept of the embodied brain, the project will explore how neuro‑vascular, physiological, and environmental factors shape cognition and behaviour.

Responsibilities

* Shape research questions and conceptual models
* Design and run multimodal neuroimaging (EEG/fNIRS) studies in human participants
* Develop data‑analysis pipelines and biomarker frameworks
* Analyse complex data sets using MatLab or Python
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support neuroimaging research projects.
* Lead scientific reporting, documentation, and presentation of project outcomes
* Contribute to potential IP generation, publications, and dissemination activities

This is an end‑to‑end scientific role covering literature synthesis, experiment design, data collection, multimodal analysis, scientific interpretation, and reporting.

Qualifications (Essential Requirements)

* A PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience, or Biomedical Engineering, ideally with demonstrated experience in neuroimaging applications. Exceptionally strong candidates without a PhD but with substantial applied neuroscience experience in neuroimaging—particularly fNIRS—are also encouraged to apply.
* Strong computing and analytical skills, including experience with MATLAB, or Python or similar
* Hands‑on experience with human‑participant data collection, including study set‑up, data acquisition, and preliminary analysis with neuroimaging technologies such as EEG or fNIRS
* Excellent organisational, documentation, and communication skills
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
* Strong scientific writing skills and attention to detail

Desirable Skills

* Experience with neuroimaging techniques, ideally fNIRS
* Familiarity with EEG, physiological monitoring, or multimodal data fusion
* Knowledge of cognitive, affective, or sensory neuroscience paradigms
* Demonstrated experience with machine learning methodologies in the context of neuroimaging applications.

Location & Working Pattern

The preferred working location is Ashford (Kent), where our partner facilities are based (40 minutes by train from London St Pancras).

However, for the right candidate, we are flexible and open to hybrid arrangements.

Call-To-Action

This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a high‑impact industrial neuroscience programme, shape next‑generation biomarker science, and work with state‑of‑the‑art multimodal imaging technologies in a dynamic, research‑driven start‑up environment.

If you are passionate about neuroimaging, human neuroscience, and translating scientific insight into real‑world applications, we would love to hear from you.

Apply now and help shape the future of applied neurotechnology.
