Overview
Land and Water Environment Officer A - 31823. This role supports protecting and enhancing the environment, helping deliver a cleaner, healthier, and safer world for people and wildlife. It involves regulating activities to safeguard rivers and waterways, and undertaking incident response and enforcement actions where required.
Responsibilities
* Regulate permitted and illegal activities to protect water quality and catchment health.
* Safeguard rivers and waterways and take enforcement action where businesses or individuals fail to comply with the law, including preparing evidence and attending court as needed.
* Participate in incident response for environmental emergencies and business continuity support; receive full training on incidents.
* Enter the role at EOA grade and progress through a structured development programme to EOB grade (up to 18 months), with training including residential sessions lasting 3–5 days, totalling at least 3 weeks and requiring travel and overnight stays.
* Support frontline delivery by walking fields, monitoring abstraction, regulating discharges, responding to pollution incidents, and coordinating swift responses to limit environmental harm.
Experience and Qualifications
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to be tactful with customers.
* Self-motivated with the ability to prioritise workload and adapt to changing circumstances.
* Ability to make timely, rational decisions based on relevant information and experience.
* Desire to protect and improve the environment; knowledge of environmental issues, especially in the Water sector, is beneficial but not essential.
* Willingness to learn and full UK driving licence.

* Locations: Lincoln, Kettering, Spalding, or Peterborough. Flexible working supported; please indicate preferences in your application.
* Travel required for inspections, incident response, and meetings; a full driving licence is essential.
