Offer description

We’re looking for Electricity Distribution - Vegetation Technicians to join our Vegetation Management team across the East Midlands, West Midlands, South West and Wales. In this newly developed role, you’ll be part of a team driving a fresh, data‑led approach to vegetation management—an area that is critical for maintaining ESQCR compliance and ensuring the resilience of our network for customers. To deliver this effectively, we work closely with a number of specialist suppliers, and these roles will be key in strengthening how we collaborate and how we manage performance across the region. Reporting to the Vegetation Management Leads, you’ll play a vital role in building and maintaining strong relationships with Field Operations and our delivery partners. You’ll also provide accurate KPI data to support our monthly Service Review Meetings, helping shape continual improvement across our vegetation programmes. A core part of your role will involve reviewing and gatekeeping supplier outage requests. Using your technical experience and data sources such as LiDAR, you’ll refine outage durations and locations, assess additional network interventions, and coordinate with Field Operations to develop an efficient and accurate outage schedule. You’ll also ensure the right resources—from staffing to generation support—are in place to maximise efficiency and minimise CML/CI. When required, you may also engage directly with customers affected by planned outages. You’ll be based at one of our depots within the licence area and will travel throughout the region as part of your duties. Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete. About Us We’re National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), the owner and operator behind the electricity distribution systems for the Midlands, the Southwest of England and South Wales. Main Responsibilities As a Vegetation Technician, you will play a central role in the safe, efficient and well‑planned delivery of vegetation works across your area. Your responsibilities will include: Oversight of outage management for the area(s) you support, ensuring all planned vegetation activities are well‑coordinated and delivered safely. Creating and maintaining outage schedules, ensuring accuracy, efficiency and alignment with operational requirements. Working closely with Field Operations to resolve outage‑related issues, delays or unexpected challenges. Compiling scorecard and KPI data relating to outages, ensuring accurate reporting for Service Review Meetings. Carrying out site visits with the incumbent supplier when required, supporting collaboration, problem‑solving and visibility of on‑site activity. Overseeing contractor performance, identifying and escalating issues or challenges where necessary. Engaging with customers and landowners to support the smooth delivery of planned works and ensure clear, respectful communication. The Ideal Candidate We’re looking for someone with strong technical experience and the confidence to work around electrical networks and vegetation in a safety‑critical environment. The ideal candidate will bring: Extensive knowledge of electrical networks, from Low Voltage through to EHV (33kV) on the overhead network. Understanding of vegetation management, ideally with experience working near electrical infrastructure. Previous experience as an Electrical Technician within an electrical utility, or experience in vegetation management where you’ve worked safely around electrical assets. Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status on the 11kV voltage network or above. Level 2 City & Guilds 2339 (essential). Level 3 City & Guilds qualification, or a willingness to complete this if you haven’t already. Confidence using digital tools and systems, with strong general computer literacy. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with Field Ops teams, suppliers, customers and landowners. A flexible, proactive approach, able to adapt to changing operational priorities. A full, valid UK/EU driving licence, with the ability to travel across your licence area.
