The Opportunity

Step into a pivotal role where you will modernize and lead the entire finance and administration function for a well-established manufacturing distributor. You will replace a 50-year veteran (retiring) and transform traditional processes using innovative technologies, AI automation, and modern financial systems.

This is not just a finance role - it is a complete digital transformation leadership position.

What You'll Transform & Lead

Financial Operations Leadership

· Lead and optimize a small finance team structure for maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness

· Oversee all financial operations: accounting, payroll, cash flow, credit control etc.

· Manage bank reconciliations, customer follow-ups, and debt management etc.

· Implement robust financial controls for national and international sales

· Drive cost savings initiatives with data-driven strategies

System Migration & Modernization

· Lead migration from Sage 200 to Xero (with new accounting firm support)

· Optimize and fully utilize financial systems capabilities (currently underutilized)

· Implement automated processes for manual tasks (reconciliations, credit control, reporting etc.)

· Design scalable systems for multi-location business consolidation

AI & Automation Implementation

· Identify and implement AI tools for financial process automation

· Collaborate with Digital Transformation team on technical solutions

· Eliminate manual interventions where possible while maintaining accuracy

· Stay current with emerging fintech and AI automation tools

Compliance & Administration

· Handle HMRC compliance: VAT, customs duties, export documentation

· Oversee month-end and year-end processes, corporation tax, and audit coordination

· Maintain insurance, pensions, healthcare, and health & safety compliance

· Manage comprehensive facilities administration: utilities (water, electricity, gas), security systems (CCTV, fire alarms), and operational contracts

· Maintain accurate ledgers and financial records

· Ensure compliance across national and international operations

Cost Optimization & Process Efficiency

· Critical Priority: Analyse and restructure team workflow to eliminate overtime costs and inefficiencies

· Assess current team capabilities and optimize resource allocation

· Identify automation opportunities to reduce manual workload and dependency issues

· Implement cost-control measures across all administrative and operational areas

What You Bring

Essential Experience

· years finance management experience, preferably in manufacturing/distribution

· Strong Xero expertise with system migration/implementation experience

· Team leadership and change management capabilities

· Experience with multi-location or consolidation financial operations

· Understanding of export/import financial processes (preferred)

Technical & AI Skills

· Proficiency with modern accounting software (Xero essential, Sage experience beneficial)

· Hands-on experience with AI tools and process automation

· Strong Excel/data analysis skills with automation mindset

· Ability to quickly learn and implement new technologies

· Experience with financial process optimization and workflow design

Leadership & Transformation Qualities

· Quick learner who can rapidly absorb 50+ years of established processes

· Change management skills to lead team through digital transformation

· Strategic thinking with practical implementation focus

· Excellent communication skills for CEO reporting and team guidance

· Proactive problem-solver with cost-reduction mindset

The Challenge & Opportunity

You will have
3 months to learn
from our retiring experienced finance leader while simultaneously:

· Planning and executing Xero migration

· Identifying automation opportunities to reduce overtime costs and team inefficiencies

· Restructuring team workflow and optimizing resource allocation

· Building new processes and controls

· Leading team through transformation
