Lead Software Engineer | Bracknell / Hybrid (2 Days Onsite, 3 Days WFH)
We're looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join our client, who is based in Bracknell. This is a genuine leadership role; you'll be technically leading a team of 8 engineers, setting the engineering vision, and being the person others look to when it matters. You'll still be hands‑on in code, but your impact will be felt across the whole team.
The Role
You'll own the technical direction of an established engineering squad, balancing delivery with people development and architectural thinking. This is a role for someone who leads by doing & not just by directing.
Day to day you'll be:
* Technically leading a team of 8 engineers, providing direction, support and hands‑on guidance
* Architecting and building full-stack applications using C# and Blazor
* Owning database design and performance across MySQL
* Setting and upholding engineering standards through code reviews and best practices
* Driving technical decision-making and contributing to broader engineering strategy
* Mentoring engineers at all levels and actively developing team capability
* Collaborating with product, stakeholders and leadership to shape roadmap and delivery
* Identifying and addressing technical debt with a pragmatic, long-term mindset
* Championing engineering culture — quality, accountability and continuous improvement
Core:
* C# / .NET
* MySQL
What We're Looking For
* Proven experience in a technical lead or senior engineering leadership role
* Strong C# development skills across complex, production-grade systems
* Solid Blazor experience, including consuming APIs and building full stack solutions
* MySQL expertise — schema design, query optimisation, performance at scale
* The ability to lead, influence and develop a team of 8 engineers
* Excellent communication skills — confident with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders
* A hands‑on leadership style with a bias for quality and delivery
Beneficial:
* PostgreSQL experience alongside MySQL
* Docker and containerisation, including nested configurations
* Linux and Nginx configuration and infrastructure setup
* CI/CD pipeline experience, preferably GitLab Pipelines
* Monitoring and observability tooling — Prometheus and Grafana
* Git proficiency, preferably with GitLab
* Scripting skills in Bash and/or PowerShell
* Networking concepts — WAF, DNS, Load Balancers
* Cloud platform experience — AWS, GCP or Azure
* Configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet or Chef
* GraphQL experience, ideally HotChocolate consumed from Blazor clients
* Google Apps Script (GAS) experience
* Full-stack application development and support experience
* Experience across both Linux and Windows operating systems
What's On Offer
* Hybrid working — 2 days in our Bracknell office, 3 days from home
* 25 days holiday + bank holidays
* Private healthcare & enhanced pension
* Real ownership of technical direction and team development
* Clear pathway to Principal or Head of Engineering level
