Under theoversightof theMatron for Renal, the role will be to lead and manage the the team to support the quality of care received by patients.

To be professionally accountable andmaintainstandards of professional practice as set by theappropriate regulatorybody applicable for your profession or role.

In a supervisory role, utilise the supervision of clinical practice, audit, research, learning from patient safety events, and teaching to set,monitor, and improve standards of care in addition to efficient and effective use of resources.

To be accountable for:

Promotingsafe and effective clinical practice.

Promoting a positivepatient experience.

Contribute to the overall performance of the Respiratory Team.

Ensuring effective contribution to the delivery of the organisation strategies andobjectives.


Main duties of the job

To ensure safe and effective clinical practice;

As a visibleclinical leader, set standards of care and professionalism and promote teamwork within a multi-professional environment,demonstratingcritical analysis and decision-making skills, leading the delivery of designated quality workstreams, influencing,andfacilitatingthe sustainment or improvement within the organisation.

Act as a change agent, developing clinically effective practice through the effective utilisation and integration ofevidence-basedpractice, setting, implementing, and monitoringevidence-basedstandardsof care, policies, and procedures.

Ensure a culture of continuous quality improvement using research, audit, patient feedback, and learning from patient safety events.

Ensure a high standard of record keepingin accordance withNursing and MidwiferyCouncil, Health and Care Professions Council, national legislation, and local standards.

Support effective communication with the multi-professional team.

Assess the risks involved in the care of patients and ensure utilisation ofevidence-basedpractices andprotocols to minimise those risks.

Tomonitorthe standards of care and elevate when standards fall below expected levels.

Report incidents and near misses promptly and appropriately and take effective action tominimise future risk.

Job responsibilities

To ensure safe and effective clinical practice;

Promote a clean and safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors by ensuringcompliance with legislation, policies and protocols including health and safety, healthcareassociated infection prevention, clinical governance, including risk management and incident reporting.

Ensure a high standard of record keepingin accordance withNursing and MidwiferyCouncil, Health and Care Professions Council, national legislation, and local standards.

Support effective communication with the multi-professional team.

Assess the risks involved in the care of patients and ensure utilisation ofevidence-basedpractices andprotocols to minimise those risks.

Tomonitorthe standards of care and elevate when standards fall below expected levels.

Apply in practiceawareness of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)methodologyand liaise with the CQITeam.

Lead onscoping excellent systems of work nationally and internationally for local adoptionor adaption.

Identifyand lead audit projects asrequired. Ensure that audit recommendations are reported, and recommendations implemented where practicable.

Develop and deliver high quality educational support, encompassing best practice, policy, and procedure, to teams, as part of quality improvement work asrequiredeither as a request from educational colleagues orindependentlyasdetailed in annual workplan.

To enhance the patients experience;

Support clinical teams andcolleagues tomonitorthe quality of patient care provided through usingexpert clinical knowledge relevant to own field of practice, underpinned by theory andexperience.

Within a multidisciplinary team environment, develop a culture of person-centred care.

Be highly visible within the clinical environment, communicating regularly withclinical leads; promoting asafe andcaring environment wherequality ismonitoredregularly and acted on where relevant.

Identifyopportunities to developthe quality ofcare and services by ensuring that there are effective systems in place toascertain current position and where needed, improvement trajectory.

Support critical appraisal and synthesis outcomes of relevant research, evaluations and audits and apply the information whenseekingto improve practice.

Be pro-active in seeking patient views, ensuring that feedback from patients is valued and acted upon and lessonsdisseminatedto enable changes in practice if they are necessary.

To manage and develop the performance of the team;

Act as a positive role model, creating a supportive ethos to empower staff to contribute to the delivery of excellent person-centred careand quality improvement.

Lead by example to positivelyinfluence the way care is given in a manner that is open and responds to individual needs.

Actin accordance withthe Nursing & Midwifery Council Code Standards of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives.

Promote a positive image of nursing and midwery internally and external to the Trust Support the embedding a culture of continuous quality improvement.

Be an effective leader of change, embedding a culture of continuous quality improvement.

Take all reasonable care of health and safety at work for self, team, and others, and co-operate with employers to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.

Support the learning and development of all staff, leading on the development of educational resources, in collaboration with relevant educational teams, linked to assigned workstreams.

Deliver educational sessions, asrequested, to support quality improvement work linked to assigned workstreams.

Create a learning environment that ensures effective learning opportunities for staff and students.

Utilise theappropriate Trustpolicies, procedures, and guidelines.

To ensure effective contribution to the delivery of the organisationsobjectives;

Network with peers, from within and outside of the organisation, across professional groups promoting the exchange of knowledge, skills, and resources.

Attend andparticipatein professional forums anddisseminateinformation.

Work in partnership with a range of clinicians and managers in the planning and development of quality workstreams, where relevant promoting the involvement of patients/public.

Support the development and implementation of the Quality Framework and other relevant organisational strategies.

Seek opportunities for personal and team development, supporting research agenda of the organisation.

Develop andmaintaina working knowledge of local, national, and professional strategy and policy, ensuring that organisationalobjectivesare included in workstream improvement plans.

Demonstrate the ability to contribute to policy and strategy at a team, organisational, and, whereappropriate, national level.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* NMC registration
* Degree level education
* Evidence of professional updating in last 12 months
* Management/Leadership education or training


Experience

* Minimum of 18 months experience as Band 6
* Renal experience
