As our new Assistant Headteacher, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping the future of our school. This is a strategic leadership role with real impact—supporting the Headteacher, guiding staff, and driving excellence across teaching, learning, and care.
You’ll lead with empathy and ambition, ensuring every child receives a meaningful education and every staff member feels empowered to grow. With a 40% teaching commitment, you’ll stay connected to the classroom, modelling best practice and understanding the needs of the pupils and team you support.
What You’ll Be Doing
Leadership & Vision
Co-lead the school’s strategic direction alongside the Headteacher and SLT
Inspire staff through mentorship, coaching, and professional development
Champion initiatives that elevate education and care standards
Curriculum & Learning
Shape a bespoke curriculum for learners with PMLD
Support teachers in delivering engaging, individualized learning plans
Collaborate with therapists, social care, and external specialists
Safeguarding & Well-being
Foster a safe, therapeutic environment where every child feels valued
Advocate creatively for pupils’ needs and aspirations
Model positive behaviour support and community spirit
Staff Development
Lead recruitment, induction, and ongoing training
Drive performance management and feedback culture
Build a team that’s confident, compassionate, and committed
Communication & Partnerships
Build strong, trusting relationships with families and carers
Represent the school with professionalism at events and meetings
Work closely with external agencies to deliver holistic support
School Improvement
Co-develop and monitor the school improvement plan
Use data to track progress and spark innovation
Lead self-evaluation and continuous improvement efforts
What You’ll Bring
A degree-level education and strong literacy/numeracy skills
Proven experience teaching in a PMLD setting
Leadership in school improvement or project delivery
A collaborative spirit and experience in multi-disciplinary teams
Deep understanding of ALN pedagogy, Foundation Phase, and Routes for Learning
Confidence using ICT to enhance learning and management
Knowledge of relevant policies, legislation, and best practices
