Immediate Bolton's specialist education sector requires staff who are equipped to handle the practicalities of a Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) environment. We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Mentor to work within a local school on a full-time basis. This position is suited to individuals with a background in Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) or those with extensive experience in Primary settings where behaviour management was a primary focus. (6 weeks plus). Responsibilities
Provide direct support to pupils with SEMH needs and associated learning barriers. Apply consistent behaviour management techniques in line with school policy. Work to increase student participation and engagement during classroom activities. Facilitate small group sessions focusing on core subject areas and social skills. Maintain a calm and controlled presence during periods of pupil escalation. Monitor student attendance, engagement, and academic progress. Help implement and track progress against Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Work alongside the Class Teacher to prepare resources adapted to specific learning needs. Support the school's safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Requirements
Practical
experience working in an SEMH, PRU, or a challenging Primary school environment. A minimum 3 - 6 months UK classroom based experience Competence in behaviour management and de-escalation strategies. Availability for full-time work (Monday to Friday) on an ongoing, long-term basis. Ability to build professional rapport with students who have disengaged from education. Evidence of maintaining high standards of classroom engagement. An enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to complete a new application.
