We are currently seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive mainstream primary school in Carlisle, starting as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a nurturing team, helping children thrive both academically and emotionally.
About the Role:
You will be working closely with pupils on a 1:1 basis as well as in small nurture groups, supporting them throughout the school day. The role involves assisting the class teacher with delivering both core subjects and engaging alternative activities that capture the interests of the pupils and promote positive learning experiences.
You’ll be a positive role model and provide a calm, caring approach, helping to guide pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You’ll play a key part in helping children develop emotional resilience, confidence, and good behaviour in a safe and structured environment.
The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for individuals with a passion for supporting children’s development and a background in working with young people. You must hold a recognised Teaching Assistant, Early Years, or Childcare qualification.
Whether you’re an experienced TA or someone from a youth coaching, counselling or care background who can manage challenging behaviour and build positive relationships, we’d love to hear from you.
You will need:
* Proven experience working with children or adults with additional or behavioural needs
* The ability to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours calmly and confidently
* Strong communication and engagement skills
* A positive, flexible attitude and a team-focused mindset
* Confidence to work across different age groups and areas of the school
* Excellent organisational and time-management skills
* A genuine passion for helping children succeed

If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
