We are seeking a Deputy Phlebotomy Manager on a 6-month fixed-term basis to support a safe, efficient, and patient-focused phlebotomy service. You will work closely with the Department Manager to oversee day-to-day operations, staff supervision, and service improvements. This is a great opportunity to develop your leadership skills, help the service meet demand, support diagnostic pathways, and deliver an excellent patient experience.
For internal applicants, we can consider this as an acting‑up or secondment opportunity. We are not currently appointing permanently pending the outcome of consultation with Broomfield Hospital employees for the new MSE Trust Pathology contract.

2. Assist the Department Manager with day-to-day coordination and staff supervision
3. Drive service improvements and ensure operational continuity
4. Contribute to diagnostic pathways and enhance the patient experience

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
5. Supporting the Phlebotomy Manager in overseeing daily operations and service delivery
6. Supervise and coordinate the phlebotomy team
7. Oversee daily staffing and department rota management ensuring appropriate staffing and skill mix
8. Act as the lead in the absence of the Phlebotomy Manager
9. Ensure adherence to clinical governance, infection prevention, and health & safety standards
10. Monitor service performance and patient experience
11. Assist in implementing policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives
12. Support recruitment and ongoing development of staff

Qualifications
Essential criteria
13. Level 6 Qualification or equivalent experience gained in a Supervisory role
Desirable criteria
14. Management/Leadership qualification or equivalent experience
Skills
Essential criteria
15. Computer literate with a good working knowledge of office applications
16. Ability to work accurately under pressure, manage time and prioritise workload
17. Ability to work on own initiative as well as under the direction of the Phlebotomy Manager
18. Full UK driving licence and access to a motor vehicle for business use
Desirable criteria
19. Certified Phlebotomist training

20. Proven experience of people management
21. Substantial experience in a healthcare setting
22. Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team

23. Working knowledge of Q Pulse or similar Quality Management system
