Role Description
Character Coffee is looking for a skilled and experienced roaster to lead our roasting operation and help shape the future of the brand. This is a rare opportunity to step into a role with creative control, influence sourcing and product development, and grow into a Head of Production position — with full-time hours and equity on the table for the right person.

Responsibilities
* Roast coffee daily to meet production targets, maintaining quality standards
* Maintain and adjust roast profiles for optimal flavour and consistency
* Collaborate with the founder on sourcing, green assessments, and QC
* Conduct cuppings for QC, dial-ins, and product development
* Maintain and clean roasting equipment, including basic diagnostics and servicing
* Keep detailed batch and QC records (using Cropster or similar software)
* Support green inventory tracking and contribute to purchasing decisions
* Assist with packing, dispatch, and wider production tasks as needed
* Innovate and refine internal systems for better quality, efficiency, and sustainability
* Represent Character Coffee at tastings, events, or trade shows if interested
Qualifications
* Roasting experience (profiling + QC)
* Strong knowledge of roast curves, sensory evaluation, and green grading
* Familiarity with Cropster or similar roast tracking systems
* Excellent cupping and sensory skills (Q Grader certification a plus)
* Physically fit and confident with manual handling
* Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and great at time management
* Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
* Available 1–2 days per week to start, with flexibility to grow
* Based within commuting distance of Worcester
* Genuinely passionate about building something from the ground up
