Full Job Description
The Business Operations team is the backbone of our Libraries, Archives and Information service, and we are looking to recruit a Support Team member to add to this dedicated and enthusiastic team.
We are seeking applicants who have excellent communication skills, are familiar with using computer systems such as Microsoft Office, and are experienced drivers. This role involves liaising with different teams and members of the public, so excellent customer service skills are also important.
The work includes heavy manual handling with a large number of items, driving a long wheelbase van to deliver boxes of books to libraries in Sheffield, and sorting out the books and boxes for delivery.
Daily checks of the building, opening and closing the Central Library, reception at the delivery entrance, and compliance tasks in the Central Library are part of the duties. This list is not exhaustive.
You will be based at the Central Library, Surrey Street, Sheffield. The post is for 37 hours per week, working on a two-week rota that includes one early evening shift and one Saturday every two weeks. Your working day will usually involve half a day of deliveries and half a day at the Central Library, but coverage for holidays may require more delivery work.
Interviews will be held on 7th and 8th May 2025.
For further information and an informal chat, please email Andrew Slaughter.
We are committed to investing in our workforce and promoting opportunities for under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity, and inclusion, aiming to increase the diversity of our workforce, especially among Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled, and LGBTQ+ individuals, to better reflect the communities we serve. We also support staff with unpaid caring responsibilities through flexible working arrangements.
This is a great time to join us, and we welcome your application.
Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria are guaranteed an interview.
Full-time employees work 37 hours per week for 52 weeks a year and are entitled to generous holiday leave. We are open to discussing flexible working options, including reduced hours, part-time work, or job sharing.
If appointed, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. However, if you can provide pay slip evidence showing your basic pay exceeds the grade minimum, we may consider starting you at a higher point within the grade.
We prioritize pay equality. All roles at Sheffield City Council are undergoing evaluation, which may lead to changes in pay arrangements from 2026. More information is available on our Sheff news page.
