Job summary

The Blaenau Gwent Community Resource Team are seeking an exceptional Team Lead Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic integrated team. We are searching for individuals who are self‑driven, passionate and eager to make a real difference to people's lives. The Community Resource Team is a collaborative service between Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Blaenau Gwent Social Services, dedicated to providing individuals with the right intervention at the right time, from the right professional(s). As a Team Lead Occupational Therapist, you will help adults remain in their own homes and work alongside a multidisciplinary team comprising physiotherapists, occupational therapists, health and wellbeing support workers, social workers, medics and nursing staff.

The CRT service is provided 7 days per week, between the hours of 8am‑8pm, 365 days a year; you will be expected to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis. Welsh language skills are desirable; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.


Responsibilities

* Prevent hospital admissions by enabling individuals to be supported in their own homes wherever possible.
* Facilitate the timely discharge of service users from acute and community hospitals.
* Assess for potential long‑term care and support needs.
* Lead and influence the ongoing development of OT provision within clinical areas while managing a varied caseload.
* Operate a clinical leadership and operational role in collaboration with the CRT Team Manager and ABUHB’s Occupational Therapy Service Professional Clinical Lead.
* Ensure the delivery of occupation‑focused, high‑quality interventions.


Qualifications (Essential)

* Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy.
* Member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* At least one module of the CQFW Level 7 (20/30 credits) or post‑registration equivalent linked to practice.
* Accredited practice placement educator.
* Certificate in Leadership and/or Management.


Qualifications (Desirable)

* Member of a relevant COT Specialist Section.


Experience (Essential)

* Extensive experience working within a practice setting.
* Some experience of operational management.
* Significant experience working at a senior OT level.
* Involvement in innovative working practices.
* Contributing to the development of local clinical guidelines.
* Experience of leading change in OT clinical practice.
* Involvement in planning local service delivery.
* Significant experience supervising less experienced OT staff.


Experience (Desirable)

* Line management responsibilities.
* Experience of research and/or audit.


Skills (Essential)

* Ability to assess, plan and implement highly specialised treatment and advice in specialist areas related to post‑acute care.
* Able to analyse and reflect on clinical practice and use this to shape future practice.
* Strong mentoring and supervision skills.
* Negotiation and problem‑solving skills within OT and wider MDT teams.
* Ability to use highly specialist clinical skills to interpret complex assessments for second opinion.
* Develop and implement standards to support best clinical practice across the department.
* Interpret and utilise evidence to inform practice.
* Analyse professional and ethical issues.


Skills (Desirable)

* Application of national initiatives within an OT service.


Knowledge (Essential)

* Specialist knowledge of assessment and intervention for area of clinical responsibility.
* Understanding of local integrated systems of OT delivery.
* Evidence of relevant and appropriate CPD.
* General department, health board and local authority policies and systems.
* Knowledge and understanding of current agenda and drivers for health and social care policies, including legislation.
* Detailed knowledge and application of principles of clinical governance and risk management.
