Children’s Speech & Language Therapist – Band 6
Full time and part time hours available. The Children’s SLT Service is expanding to meet growing demand.

Main Duties of the Job
* Develop and provide universal, targeted and specialist speech and language therapy services to children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).
* Deliver assessment and therapy to a mixed paediatric caseload in mainstream schools, special schools and other provisions, including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Difficulties, Developmental Language Disorder and Speech Disorders.
* Provide report writing and training for parents/carers and other professionals.
* Participate in a dynamic, committed team to deliver high‑quality services to the Bromley population.
* Maintain flexibility and work part‑time or in shared arrangements where possible.

Detailed Job Description & Main Responsibilities
* Develop and provide universal, targeted and specialist speech and language therapy services to patients with speech, language and communication needs.
* Make a differential diagnosis based on assessment evidence, guiding intervention decisions.
* Communicate complex condition‑related information from assessment to patients, carers, families and multidisciplinary team members.
* Maintain sensitivity to patients’ emotional needs, especially when providing potentially distressing information.
* Negotiate and collaborate with patients, carers, families and other professionals to agree on priority and care plans.
* Initiate and provide a variety of treatment options, including use of interpreters when appropriate.
* Use augmentative and alternative communication methods (signing, symbols, speech synthesisers) to maximise client communication.
* Demonstrate empathy towards clients, carers and colleagues to achieve effective communication.
* Adapt practice to meet individual patient circumstances, considering cultural, linguistic and gender differences.
* Establish productive relationships with clients who may be under stress or have challenging communication difficulties.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Recognised speech & language therapy degree or equivalent.
* Successful completion of RCSLT newly qualified competencies.
* Health Professions Council licence to practice.
* Registered member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
* Membership of relevant CEN.
* Evidence of appropriate external and internal training relevant to developing specialism.
Experience
* Experience managing a clinic and caseload.
* Experience working with other professionals relevant to client groups.
* Pre‑school and school‑age experience.
* Secondary age experience.
* Evidence of developing responsibility for clinic and caseload management.
Specific Skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills, including observation, listening and empathy.
* Strong analytical skills for case‑load management, assessment and therapy.
* Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
* Ability to transcribe speech phonetically.
* Skills in handling clients with disabilities.
* Ability to maintain intense concentration over prolonged periods.
* Well‑organised, reflective practitioner.
* UK driver’s licence and access to a car for work purposes.
