Job Title: Support Worker
Location: Cornwall
Responsible to: Karrek Community CIC’s Management Team
Karrek Care is a new style Care Company for Cornwall. Its beneficiaries are predominately people that would be in receipt of support services for vulnerable people; referrals can be received from many different people who require domiciliary support and personal care.

Job purpose
To support and empower people with learning disabilities to live the life they have chosen and to support them in activities they choose to participate in. To provide age-appropriate & dignified support consistent with individual choices and aspirations. To provide care in accordance with current best practices, according to policy and procedures, agreed standards, legislative requirements, relevant regulations under the direction of a manager, and within the financial plans agreed from time-to-time. To maintain care skills at a current level, and undertake such training and development as may be required to maintain practices as up-to-date. There is a statutory responsibility for safeguarding of vulnerable people; ensure that safeguarding requirements from CQC, local authority, NHS & Karrek are fully implemented and monitored.
Responsibilities
Main Duties (not in any order of priority):
* Develop effective working relationships with other employees within the company
* Support an open, positive and inclusive working culture
* Participate in the development of the company’s policies
* Participate in the evaluation of the company against agreed organizational goals, business and quality objectives
* Work to establish effective employer-employee relationships
* Minimize legal risks
* Participate in the maintenance of the company’s management information systems
* Assist in the formulation and implementation of care policies and procedures
* Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the standards required by legislation related to the registration of Karrek Community CIC
* Act within the company’s budget based on the company’s objectives and within the projected revenue
* Work in a cost-effective manner
* Be involved in the implementation and maintenance of the company’s quality assurance programme
* Assist in the design and administration of an evaluation of the Care Standards and Care Service Provision
* Systematically solve day-to-day problematical issues which arise
People supported
* Ensure support is consistent with the company values
* Assist individuals to realise needs and wishes in their Individual Support Plan, including social and living skills, work, education, leisure, recreation and, where requested, spiritual support; review/update the Support Plan when necessary
* Work towards maintaining high quality support practices through policies and procedures
* Encourage self-advocacy, self-care and rehabilitation
* Communicate effectively with people supported, their families/advocates, staff, and other professionals, ensuring permissions are followed
* Support individuals in personal care with dignity and respect as needed
* Assist (where appropriate) in the safe preparation of food following food hygiene training
* Meet standards laid down in medication assessment and administer medication thereafter
* Assist in developing the philosophy, goals and objectives for care practice
* Assist in assessing effectiveness of care implementation and delivery
* Implement actions to maintain care standards
* Collaborate with multi-disciplinary health teams to maximise therapeutic care opportunities
* Protect the rights of people supported
* Evaluate standards of care competence
* Encourage health promotion within care strategies
* Record relevant activities in Care Plans
* Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth
* Promote a positive image for services and employment within Karrek Community CIC
Qualifications and requirements
* Experience or competence in safeguarding vulnerable people (statutory safeguarding responsibility)
* Ability to work within policy, procedures and regulatory requirements; awareness of CQC, local authority, NHS requirements
* Willingness to participate in training and development to maintain up-to-date practices
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Basic food hygiene and medication administration capabilities as outlined by policy and training
