Salary: NJC Grade C: £25,583 - £26,403 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked)
Working Pattern: This is a fixed term position working 30 hours per week, 38 weeks per year until 31st August 2026 (Monday to Friday 8.45 -15.15)
South Molton Community Primary School are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our school team working with both groups and individuals across Key Stage 2. You will play a key role in supporting pupils’ learning, wellbeing and development, helping to create a positive, inclusive and engaging school environment.
About the Role
Working under the guidance of teaching and senior staff, you will support learning in both the classroom and small‑group settings.
Responsibilities include:
* Supporting pupils’ welfare and personal care, including those with SEND
* Delivering pre‑planned learning, care and support programmes
* Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions
* Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources
* Providing clerical and administrative support to teaching staff
* Monitoring progress and giving feedback to teachers
* Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence
* Supporting school policies for safeguarding, health & safety, confidentiality and equal opportunities
* You will also assist with supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompany pupils on trips when required.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who can bring energy, compassion and commitment to the role.
Essential qualities include:
* Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age
* Basic understanding of child development and learning
* Knowledge of safeguarding practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning
* Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
* Ability to relate well to both children and adults
* Good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English & Maths or equivalent)
* Confidence using ICT, including Microsoft Office programmes
Desirable (but not essential):
* Experience supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
* Knowledge of SEN practices and the national curriculum
* Additional training in learning strategies such as literacy or numeracy
* NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent
