Finance Manager
Glasgow office based (onsite Monday to Friday)
£50,000 to £60,000 depending on experience, plus pension & benefits
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Finance Manager to take full ownership of the finance function within our growing business. This is a standalone role, reporting to the Managing Director and responsible for overseeing all day-to-day financial operations, delivering accurate reporting and insight, managing budgets and forecasts, and supporting strategic decision-making as the company continues to expand.
The ideal candidate will be hands-on, commercially minded, and confident working independently, with the ability to streamline processes, ensure robust financial controls, and provide clear guidance to senior leadership in a fast-moving, dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.
The role is both multi-faceted and diverse requiring a great deal of initiative, accuracy and attention to detail.
Essential Duties
* Lead all day-to-day financial operations, including bookkeeping oversight, month-end close, bank reconciliations, cashflow management and production of accurate management accounts.
* Prepare financial reports and analysis for the Managing Director, providing insight on performance, margins, variances and forecasting to support strategic decision-making.
* Manage budgeting and planning processes, including annual budgets, quarterly reforecasts, cost control monitoring and scenario modelling to maintain financial stability.
* Oversee compliance and governance, ensuring timely submission of VAT returns, payroll accuracy, statutory reporting support, audit preparation and adherence to relevant regulatory requirements.
* Drive continuous improvement across finance, implementing better processes, systems and controls while supporting operational teams with financial guidance to enhance profitability and efficiency.
* Assist and cooperate fully with External Company Accountants
* Assist Company Accountants with audit preparation
* Ensure timely payment of PAYE and NIC to HMRC
* Ensure timely payment of suppliers and third parties
* Prepare regular commercial reports to management
* Review the credit worthiness of potential new clients and report findings to management
* Review of debts for bad and doubtful debt provisions
* Act as first point of contact for high-level finance and payroll matters, escalating to the senior management team as necessary
* Ensure the appropriate standards of Health and Safety are adhered to in line with current and future legislation
Experience and Skills Specification
* Experience of working in a commercial finance leadership role in the private sector
* Sound working knowledge of VAT and PAYE processes and procedures
* Payroll experience
* A sound understanding of accounting and credit control methods and current practices
* Experience of Xero, or similar cloud-based software
* Competent in the use of Microsoft office excel and word
Education / Training
* Fully Qualified or Qualified by Experience accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA) desirable
