SCF Obs & Gynae special interest Fetal Monitoring
Senior Clinical Fellow with a special interest in Fetal Monitoring in Obstetrics & Gynecology. We invite applications for a fixed‑term (September 2026 to September 2027) Senior Clinical Fellow role at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a licence to practice at the time of application.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor to join the current Obs & Gynae team as a clinical fellow. The service operates through four sites: St James University Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary, Wharfdale General Hospital and Seacroft Hospital. The post is suitable for doctors wishing to gain experience at a ST6+ level in Obs & Gynae. The post offers a wide range of experience across all areas of the specialty, including opportunities to develop interests in Maternal Medicine and Fetal Monitoring.
The successful candidate will be involved in specialised maternal medicine clinics (diabetes, endocrinology, haematology, cardiology, gastro‑intestinal and rheumatology), regular multidisciplinary team meetings, quality improvement projects and teaching. The fetal monitoring team consists of two obstetricians and two midwives responsible for teaching, assessment and clinical governance. The candidate will help within this team and participate in local and regional discussions around FM teaching and standards.
Job responsibilities
* Provide clinical care in obstetrics and gynaecology at an ST6+ level.
* Participate in operative delivery and Caesarean sections.
* Interpret CTGs using NICE guidance.
* Engage in multidisciplinary team meetings, quality improvement and audit work.
* Deliver teaching sessions and develop patient information leaflets and guidelines.
* Lead or assist QI projects and educational activities.
* Support the fetal monitoring team in teaching, assessment and governance.
* Maintain professional development and adhere to workplace policies.
Qualifications and Experience
* Completed Foundation competencies (UK Foundation Programme or equivalent).
* MRCOG Part 1 and MRCOG Part 3.
* Basic Life Support training.
* Minimum 6 months of ST6+ level experience in the UK.
* Competent in operative delivery and Caesarean sections.
* Leadership skills, clinical competence in obstetrics and gynaecology, and experience in clinical education and audit/quality improvement.
