We are seeking a commercially aware, hands-on Assistant Accountant to contribute to the financial planning and strategic growth of a well-established and successful SME in Scunthorpe.

Description
1. Oversee and manage the company's financial operations.
2. Prepare and present financial reports.
3. Develop and maintain budgets.
4. Ensure compliance with financial laws and guidelines.
5. Collaborate with other departments to improve financial performance.
6. Identify potential areas for cost reductions.
7. Ensure all financial practices are in line with statutory regulations and legislation.
8. Support the financial decision-making process within the company.
9. Maintain and process purchase ledger and sales ledger transactions.
10. Perform effective credit control, including monitoring outstanding accounts and following up on payments.
11. Assist with the preparation of management accounts and reporting.
12. Support month-end and year-end close processes.
13. Reconcile supplier statements and investigate any discrepancies.
14. Work closely with other departments to ensure accurate stock control and inventory costing.
15. Utilise ERP systems to manage financial data and reporting (e.g., Sage, SAP, NetSuite).
16. Use Microsoft Excel extensively for data analysis, reconciliation, and reporting (including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables).
Profile
* Proven experience in purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control, and assisting with management accounts.
* Strong knowledge of month-end accounting processes.
* Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Sage, SAP, NetSuite, or similar).
* Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and data analysis).
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
* Experience in stock control or working with inventory systems is desirable.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills.
* AAT qualified or working towards a relevant finance/accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA preferred but not essential).
