As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will play a pivotal role in helping learners succeed in English and Maths up to Level 2. You’ll deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment — inspiring learners to reach their goals, contextualising delivery to make learning meaningful, and supporting those with additional needs to overcome barriers.
The role is predominantly remote, offering excellent flexibility. However, you will be expected to attend the Birmingham office a couple of times a month to run focused Functional Skills revision sessions and exam preparation.
* Deliver and assess Functional Skills Maths and English up to Level 2.
* Inspire and motivate learners through creative and engaging teaching approaches.
* Provide tailored support to apprentices with varying abilities and additional needs.
* Register learners for exams, ensure timely bookings, and feedback results.
* Track learner progress clearly and transparently, sharing updates with managers and employers.
* Contextualise Functional Skills delivery to apprenticeship sectors, ensuring relevance and impact.
* Develop innovative teaching methods including blended, remote, and workplace-based learning.
* Contribute to curriculum development, self-assessment reviews, and continuous improvement.
* Collaborate with colleagues to plan delivery, share best practice, and support CPD.
What We’re Looking For
* Experience of teaching or supporting delivery in Functional Skills Maths and English (up to Level 2).
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage learner progress effectively.
* A flexible and proactive approach to teaching and supporting learners.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage learners with different needs and backgrounds.
* Willingness to travel to Birmingham a couple of times a month.
