Ackerman Pierce works closely with local authorities to provide one-to-one tutoring for young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH) who are unable to attend mainstream school. The students we support have various complex needs, and we seek experienced SEMH Tutors, SEN Tutors / Teachers / HLTA's, with a background in supporting young people with SEMH, preferably with a therapeutic approach.
We are recruiting KS3-KS4 tutors to support students based in Buckland, Portsmouth. Support in core subjects (Math, English, and Science) is required. These students present needs including SEMH, EBSA, school refusal, ASD, ADHD, and more. Prior SEMH or therapeutic experience is preferred.
Position Details:
* Type: 1:1 SEMH tutor
* Start date: ASAP
* End date: Ongoing
* Contract: Temporary
* Hours: 2-3 hours per student, 5 days a week (Monday - Friday). Most tutors work with 2-3 students daily, up to 35 hours weekly.
* Pay: from £25/hour for unqualified tutors, up to £40/hour for qualified teachers with SEMH/therapeutic experience.
* Term time only, during school hours.
Candidate Requirements:
* Available during school hours, 10-30 hours per week.
* Experience delivering differentiated core subjects aligned with the National Curriculum.
* Experience working with students with complex needs including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, etc.
* Therapeutic or trauma-informed experience is advantageous.
* Strong behaviour management skills.
* Willingness to work face-to-face within the community or family home.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Background in teaching English, Maths, or SEN classes.
* Former therapists or CAMHS workers interested in tutoring.
* QTS or equivalent, or unqualified with at least two years' experience in teaching core subjects.
* Experience with SEMH and related needs.
