To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

The North of Scotland Clinical Genetics Team seeks a new Consultant colleague (1.0 WTE) following the recent retirement of a long-serving colleague. The post holder will work with the existing Clinical Genetics Multidisciplinary Team to provide professionally driven, high quality Genetic care to patients and families with inherited disorders across the North of Scotland.

The service covers five Health Board Regions - Grampian, Highland, Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles, which includes two cities and a vast spectacular geographic area, with total population of around 906,000.

The Clinical Genetics Department comprises a Clinical Team and the Genomics Laboratory, based at the Foresterhill Campus in Aberdeen. The Laboratory is run as part of the NHS Scotland Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine. The Department has links with Children’s Services in Aberdeen and Inverness, including Community Child Health and Learning Disability Services, with Maternity Services in Aberdeen and Inverness and Medical and Surgical Services for Adults and Children. Grampian Secondary and Tertiary Services are based on the Foresterhill Campus, meaning that the Genetic Clinic is only a short walk from the Laboratory, Adult, Children’s and Maternity Hospitals, as well as the University of Aberdeen Institutes of Medical Sciences and Applied Health Sciences, and teaching and learning Suttie Centre. The department also has a Genetic Counsellor led Hub in Inverness, where monthly clinics are delivered by the team.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to service improvement, audit, teaching, training, CPD and to support ongoing department research.
