Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist in the Department of Digestive Disorders, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Every attempt will be made to accommodate sub-specialty interests depending on individuals. There is no commitment for General Medicine in these posts.
This post will be offered at 8 Programmed Activities, but there are more opportunities in the wider Medicine and Unscheduled Care Portfolio for applicants seeking additional Programmed Activities. If appointed, the job plan will be discussed on an individual basis. The post is available for a period of 12 months.
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is the major teaching hospital for the North of Scotland. The Department of Digestive Disorders provides tertiary services for the NHS Grampian Region and the Shetland and Orkney Islands. The successful applicants would join a team of 14 NHS Consultants and one Associate Specialist.
The Department of Digestive Disorders offers a full range of secondary and tertiary Luminal Gastroenterology services including advanced IBD, advanced Endoscopy, Hepatology and Nutrition services. In patient care takes place in the Emergency Care Centre with a dedicated 29 bed Gastroenterology Ward. Clinic and Endoscopy facilities have also been renovated in recent years to provide excellent facilities. The unit has an active research programme working jointly with The University of Aberdeen. There are excellent post graduate educational facilities further enhanced by the Suttie Centre for medical education.
Aberdeen is well known for its superb quality of life and enjoys first class amenities, housing and schools. There are excellent connections with other British cities and the continent, flying time to London is one hour with more than 20 daily flights - and road and rail links to all points north and south are easily accessible. Aberdeenshire includes some of the most spectacular countryside in Europe with Royal Deeside and the Cairngorm Mountain National Park and a wide range of outdoor pursuits within easy reach or commute of the city.
