Senior Midwifery Practitioner - Inpatient Ward Leader

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a B7 Senior Midwifery Practitioner to work as Ward Lead Supervisor in our high‑risk inpatient areas. The role involves 24/7 leadership and clinical support across the 43‑bed Burley and Lyndhurst Wards.
Main duties
* Provide clinical leadership to midwives and other staff, ensuring high standards of patient safety, infection prevention, health and safety, equipment maintenance, and drug and medicine management.
* Promote excellence in midwifery practice and act as a clinical leader for midwives and other staff.
* Support the leadership team to develop new ways of working and meet the needs of service users.
* Maintain visible presence on the ward during all shift patterns, working closely with the F‑level leadership team.
* Demonstrate leadership behaviours that foster respect, resilience, trust, enthusiasm and energy, positively impacting workplace culture.
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* Registered Midwife on the relevant part of the NMC register.
* Significant clinical experience, including management of a clinical team.
* Evidence of continual professional development, including an associate/mentorship qualification or equivalent experience.
* Expert clinical skills relevant to speciality and achievement of all midwifery competencies.
* Experience of writing protocols, guidelines and integrated care pathways.
* Completion of a high‑dependency course.
* Previous team‑leadership role.
* Evidence of audit involvement.
* Experience of leading change‑management programmes.
* Examination of the newborn qualification.

Salary: depending on experience £49,387 to £56,515 per annum, pro rata.
