Job overview


The Assistant Practitioner (Radiography) will work as part of a multidisciplinary radiology team to support the delivery of high-quality diagnostic imaging services within the Radiology Department. The post holder will perform routine x-ray examinations, under the supervision of registered radiographers, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity at all times. They will contribute to maintaining high clinical standards, uphold radiation protection principles, and promote effective team working to support efficient patient care pathways. The role also involves maintaining accurate patient records, assisting with departmental audits, and participating in continuous professional development to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.

* Perform a range of routine x-ray examinations within the scope of practice, in line with departmental protocols and IR(ME)R regulations.

* Work under the direction and supervision of qualified radiographers, maintaining high standards of image quality and patient care.

* Ensure patient identification, consent, and safety checks are completed before all examinations.

* Prepare and maintain clinical areas and equipment, reporting any faults promptly.

* Promote infection prevention and control, ensuring all work areas remain clean and safe.

* Support and communicate effectively with patients, carers, and colleagues, providing clear explanations of procedures.

* Accurately record patient and examination details using the Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

* Participate in audit, quality assurance, and continuous professional development (CPD) activities.

* Contribute to training and support of students, trainees, and new staff as required.

* Uphold Trust values and policies relating to patient confidentiality, safeguarding, equality, and health and safety.
