We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic team player to become an integral part of the Paediatric Diabetes Multidisciplinary team (MDT). Experience in paediatric dietetics and/ or diabetes is desired but not essential. The Diabetes MDT are based in the Beacon’s Centre for Health in Swansea, with clinics and inpatient services provided at Morriston Hospital. You may be required to travel to other sites across the Health Board Area.

The post is permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week). You will work closely with members of the paediatric diabetes MDT including; Consultants, Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Clinical Psychologists whilst supported in this environment by the lead Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a tertiary hospital and experience the close working relationship within a motivated MDT. The post holder will be working alongside the lead Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian to deliver structured education at ward level and will attend a range of outpatient clinics focusing on managing both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes in Children & Young People. In addition, there is opportunity to facilitate group education sessions, as well as training to other health care professionals and school staff.

Main duties of the job

This post would be suitable for a motivated Dietitian who has wide knowledge and experience at band 5 level and who wishes to develop their skills in a specialist subject and supportive environment, or an experienced band 6 looking for a new challenge.

You will enjoy the support of a senior mentor and will receive relevant training and support as required. You will be expected to supervise and mentor student dietitians, Dietetic Assistants, and junior staff.

We offer departmental CPD time to support your development and are committed to the development of teaching and presentation skills, evidenced based practice, research and clinical audit. You will be supported in attending relevant professional networking meetings and interest groups.

We are approved for student placements (1, 2 and 3). We have good support from administrative and Dietetic Assistants. The Health Board has University status with Colleges of Medicine on site.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
2. HCPC Registered.
3. Post registration training in relevant area.
4. Evidence of a wide variety of clinical knowledge at band 5 level
5. Documented evidence of CPD

Desirable criteria

6. Student clinical educators course

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Experience of service delivery in a variety of different clinical settings since HCPC registration.
8. Experience of working with patients with diverse healthcare needs
9. Student training experience

Desirable criteria

10. Experience of supervising/ mentoring staff

Aptitude and abilities

Essential criteria

11. Effective communication skills with people from diverse backgrounds
12. Group presentation skills
13. Ability to work effectively single handedly with individuals
