Gardener – Mount Grace Priory
North Yorkshire | Full-Time | 36 Hours Per Week
Fixed-Term Contract – 9 Months Initially
Salary from £23,896 per annum pro rata

English Heritage is seeking a Gardener to support the ongoing development and maintenance of the nationally significant gardens at Mount Grace Priory, alongside satellite sites, including Richmond Castle, Rievaulx Abbey and Barnard Castle.
This is a rare opportunity to work across a unique collection of heritage landscapes, from medieval monastic spaces to Arts & Crafts-inspired restoration projects. You’ll play an important role in maintaining high horticultural standards while helping shape the future of these exceptional visitor destinations.
Working within a collaborative gardening team, you’ll contribute to
* The care and development of historic gardens and landscapes
* Seasonal planting and horticultural maintenance
* Restoration and enhancement projects
* Supporting and working alongside volunteers
* Delivering an outstanding visitor experience across multiple heritage sites
Mount Grace Priory features one of the best-preserved Carthusian monasteries in Britain, with gardens spanning medieval through to nineteenth-century design, including restoration work influenced by leading garden designer, Chris Beardshaw.
We’re looking for someone with
* NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture (or equivalent)
* Experience within a professional horticultural environment
* A passion for historic gardens and landscape care
* The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
