Project Details
The successful candidate will work across a broad range of built environment projects, including residential, mixed-use, commercial and public sector buildings. Projects involve fire safety surveying, external wall assessments, fire strategies and wider building surveying services across existing and new-build assets.
Responsibilities and Duties
This role would suit an experienced Building Surveyor looking to develop a long-term career in fire safety consultancy within the construction industry. Responsibilities will include leading fire safety surveying commissions while supporting junior staff and maintaining strong client relationships.
1. Deliver fire safety surveying services, including compartmentation surveys and fire door inspections
2. Undertake external wall system surveys and prepare PAS 9980 FRAEW appraisals
3. Review fire strategies and prepare technical reports for clients
4. Manage complex fire safety and building surveying projects through their full lifecycle
5. Provide professional advice to clients and identify repeat and new business opportunities
6. Support wider building surveying duties, including condition surveys, defects analysis and party wall matters
7. Mentor and support junior Building Surveyors and contribute to knowledge sharing across the practice
8. Liaise with clients, contractors and other construction consultants
Desired Skills and Experience
Candidates should have a strong technical background in fire safety and building surveying, with experience working within a construction consultancy or similar professional services environment.
9. Proven experience delivering fire safety and building surveying services
10. FRAEW experience, ideally RICS External Wall Assessment qualified and able to sign EWS1 forms
11. Fire door inspection training such as DipFD or equivalent
12. Passive fire protection training such as ASFP or equivalent
13. Strong understanding of fire safety legislation, building construction and compliance
14. Experience of pre-contract duties and project delivery
15. Familiarity with JCT forms of contract
16. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
17. Ability to mentor and develop junior surveyors
18. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
19. Full UK driving licence and access to transport is essential
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
20. BSc or MSc in Building Surveying or a related discipline
21. MRICS, AIFireE or equivalent professional qualification
22. Candidates working towards chartership with significant relevant experience will also be considered
